DKNY’s New Creative Directors Are Public School Founders Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne

DKNY’s fall 2015 collection was, more so than ever, a complete homage to the city of New York and its enthralling energy. So it seemed natural that in scouting for new talent to helm its design team, the brand found what it was looking for within the Big Apple.

This morning Donna Karan International announced the appointment of Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne as creative directors of DKNY. The duo, which founded CFDA award–winning label Public School, will split their time designing for both companies, effective immediately.

“I started DKNY with the goal of creating a brand that captured the very best of New York and could bring that great energy to the world,” Donna Karan, founder and chief designer of Donna Karan International, said in a statement. “Now is the right moment for its evolution and I am so excited for the next chapter of this company working together with this new creative team.”

Both born and raised New Yorkers, Chow and Osborne’s appointment might be a perfect fit. Their past and current Public School collections each contain a structural, athletic, technological, and often all-black formula that the two are lauded for and could easily resonate with the DKNY DNA.

“[The brand] evokes everything our city was always about—energy, disruption, new thinking, and transcending all boundaries,” Chow and Osborne said in a statement. DKNY has also created a new role, chief image officer, to be filled by Hector Muelas, formerly of Apple. We’re excited to see new team make their debut.
